Sports Mole previews Monday's Argentine Primera Division clash between Tigre and Deportivo Riestra, including predictions, team news and possible lineups.
Sports Mole

Looking to secure their first home win of the season, Tigre take on Deportivo Riestra in round eight of the Argentine Primera Division on Monday.

Cristian Fabbiani's men head into the game on a run of three defeats in their three away matches so far and will journey to the Estadio Jose Dellagiovanna aiming to end this dry spell.

Match preview

Tigre were sent crashing back down to earth on Thursday night as they were held to a 1-1 stalemate by Central Cordoba at the Estadio Jose Dellagiovanna after holding the lead for most of the game.

Tomas Galvas struck inside the first 60 seconds to hand the hosts a dream start to the game but Colombian midfielder Luis Miguel Angulo netted in the 77th minute to force a share of the spoils.

Prior to that, El Matador snapped their 12-game winless run across all competitions on July 18, when they picked up a 2-0 victory over Argentinos Juniors courtesy of goals from Blas Armoa and Nahuel Banegas.

Despite Friday's result, Sebastian Dominguez will be impressed with his side's display as they have picked up five points from the last nine available, having managed just one point from their opening four matches.

While Tigre will be looking to return to winning ways on Monday, results at home offer little optimism as they have failed to taste victory in any of their last eight games at the Estadio Jose Dellagiovanna across all competitions, losing six and claiming two draws since beating Central Cordoba on March 1.

Central Cordoba, on the other hand, turned in an impressive team display last Tuesday when they picked up a comfortable 2-0 victory over 10-man Argentinos Juniors at the Estadio Guillermo Laza.

Erik Godoy picked up a 13th-minute red card to hand the hosts a numerical advantage and they would make this count in the second half as Antony Alonso and Gonzalo Bravo found the back of the net to hand them a deserved victory.

Having kicked off the season with three defeats in their opening four games, Cristian Fabbiani's men have now won two of their subsequent three matches, with a 2-1 loss to Belgrano on July 19 sandwiched between the two wins.

However, Central Cordoba will need to be at their best at the Estadio Jose Dellagiovanna as they have lost each of their three games on the road this season, conceding five goals and scoring just once, and have managed just one win in their 10 away matches since the turn of the year.

Team News

Central Cordoba will be without the services of 24-year-old defender Brian Leizza, who is currently suspended after picking up a late red card last time out.

On the injury front, the El Matador head into Monday's game with a lengthy absentee list as Lorenzo Scipioni (shoulder), Angelo Marchese (hamstring) and Tomas Fernandez (knee) all continue their spells on the sidelines.

The trio of Facundo Ferreyra, Camilo Viganoni and 23-year-old defender Pablo Minissale have been ruled out through muscle injuries and will also play no part in Tuesday's game.

Experienced striker Ijiel Protti continues his long road to full fitness after sustaining an Achilles tendon injury in February 2023 while Juan Cruz Esquivel is recuperating from a knee problem.

As for Riestra, Guillermo Pereira missed the game against Argentinos Juniors last time out after coming off injured with a first-half injury against Belgrano on July 19 and the 30-year-old is a major doubt for Monday's game.

In his absence, experienced midfielder Brian Sanchez was handed a starting role against Argentinos and should retain his place in the XI, teaming up with Pablo Monje and Milton Celiz at the centre of the park.

New signing Alonso opened his account for Fabbiani's side with his strike against Argentinos and the Uruguayan striker should lead the attack once again, alongside strike partner Jonathan Herrera.

Tigre possible starting lineup:
Zenobio; Ortega, Nardelli, Paz, Banegas; Garay, Cardozo; Galvan, Maroni, Armoa; Forclaz

Deportivo Riestra possible starting lineup:
Arce; Ramirez, Torres, Sansotre, Barrionuevo, Goitia; Sanchez, Celi, Monje, Alonso, Herrera

We say: Tigre 2-2 Deportivo Riestra

After a slow start to the season, Tigre and Riestra have picked up the pace in recent weeks and will look to keep the juggernaut rolling. However, we predict that both sides will cancel each other's efforts in a high-scoring stalemate.
