Sports Mole previews Sunday's Women's Super League clash between West Ham United Women and Leicester Women, including predictions, team news and possible lineups.
Sports Mole

On Sunday, West Ham United Women will welcome Leicester Women to the Chigwell Construction Stadium for their final home game of the Women's Super League season.

The Hammers have gone seven games without a win, while their opponents are winless in six matches in all competitions.

Match preview

West Ham have secured their survival after last Sunday's draw against Aston Villa was followed by Bristol City's 4-0 defeat to Manchester City.

Shannon Cooke scored a 95th-minute equaliser to hold the Villans to a 1-1 draw, leaving the Hammers eight points above Bristol City with just two games left to play.

While they may be safe, the 11th-placed side will be determined to beat Leicester and claim their first win since February 4.

They have fared well in recent meetings with the Foxes, recording two wins before drawing 1-1 in December's reverse fixture.

The Hammers have also won both of their previous WSL home games against West Ham, recording a 4-0 victory in September 2021 and a 1-0 win in November 2022.

Having mustered 17 points from 20 games, Leicester are sitting in 10th place and three points above Sunday's opponents.

After losing to Tottenham Hotspur in the FA Cup semi-finals earlier this month, the Foxes have gone on to suffer consecutive league defeats against Arsenal and Man United.

They fell to a heavy 3-0 away loss against the Gunners, before they lost 1-0 to Man United in last Sunday's home fixture following Ella Toone's 83rd-minute strike.

As a result of their poor form, Leicester have gone nearly two months since claiming their last victory in an FA Cup quarter-final against Liverpool.

If they are to claim all three points on Sunday, the Foxes will have to beat West Ham for the first time since February 2022.

Team News

West Ham are still expected to be without the injured midfield trio of Abbey-Leigh Stringer, Katrina Gorry and Kristie Mewis.

Although Cooke scored a late equaliser last weekend, the defender may have to settle for a place on the bench, with Rehanne Skinner likely to name an unchanged lineup.

As for the Foxes, interim boss Jennifer Foster has confirmed that Shannon O'Brien and Denny Draper remain sidelined for Sunday's fixture.

Foster could be tempted to make a couple of changes, with defender CJ Bott and forward Deanne Rose both in contention to start against the Hammers.

Goalkeeper Janina Leitzig is expected to retain her place in goal after she came into the side to make her first appearance since February in last Sunday's defeat to Man United.

West Ham United Women possible starting lineup:
Arnold; Smith, Cissoko, Tysiak, Zadorsky; Shimizu, Snerle, Hayashi; Ziu, Asseyi, Ueki

Leicester Women possible starting lineup:
Leitzig; Bott, Thibaud, Howard, Cayman; Rantala, Tierney, Takarada, Momiki, Rose; Petermann

We say: West Ham United Women 1-1 Leicester Women

With the two sides separated by just three points and one position, we expect Sunday's clash to be a close-fought affair and as a result, we think that the two sides may have to settle for a share of the spoils.
