Sports Mole previews Monday's League One clash between Wycombe Wanderers and Forest Green Rovers, including predictions, team news and possible lineups.
Sports Mole

Two teams in dire need of a victory face off in round 41 of the 2022-23 League One campaign, as Wycombe Wanderers entertain the challenge of Forest Green Rovers at Adams Park on Monday.

The hosts are currently on a run of one win in six matches heading into the clash, while their visitors boast just one victory across all competitions since the turn of the year

Match preview

Wycombe Wanderers were left red-faced in their last outing as they fell to a humiliating 4-0 defeat against Ipswich Town in the teams' meeting at Portman Road on Friday.

First-half goals from George Hirst and Conor Chaplin left Matt Bloomfield's men with a mountain to climb after which Wes Burns and Freddie Ladapo put the result beyond doubt in the second period.

Consequently, the Wanderers remain eighth in the League One table, six points behind Peterborough in the battle for the final promotion playoff berth.

On the horizon next is the task of facing off against an opposing outfit who are without a win in the previous editions of this fixture since the maiden encounter in 2012.

Having lost just one of their last seven home games leading up to Monday's contest, the hosts will back themselves to secure another positive result in front of their fans.

Forest Green Rovers were beaten for the fifth time in six league matches following a 2-0 loss against Derby County at The New Lawn Stadium in Friday's lunchtime clash.

Duncan Ferguson's men fell behind to James Collins's second-minute penalty before David McGoldrick put the result beyond doubt eight minutes from the end of normal time.

Picking up 26 points from their 40 matches so far, the Greens remain rooted to the foot of the standings, a whopping 12 points adrift of safety with six games remaining.

Off the back of four consecutive away defeats by a combined score of 9-1, Monday's visitors will be keen to avoid another fruitless outing on enemy territory.

Team News

Thirty-two-year-old David Wheeler was at the double for Wycombe in his last home outing, and he will be looking to deliver the goods once again.

Nick Freeman was handed a rare starting berth last time out, but the midfielder is expected to be dropped to the bench for this one in favour of Chem Campbell.

Having now seen his side fail to score in three of their last four outings, Duncan Ferguson may be contemplating making some changes in the attacking department.

Manchester United loanee Charlie Savage is one of those who could make way, as the Welshman boasts just one goal in his nine games for the visitors since January.

Wycombe Wanderers possible starting lineup:
Stryjek; Grimmer, Forino-Joseph, Tafazolli, Jacobson; Wing, Scowen; Campbell, De Barr, Wheeler; Hanlan

Forest Green Rovers possible starting lineup:
Doohan; Robson, Cooper, Casey, Godwin-Malife; Garrick, Bunker, McGeouch, McAllister; Peart-Harris, Omotoye

We say: Wycombe Wanderers 2-0 Forest Green Rovers

Forest Green Rovers have been defensively poor all-season long, and coupled with their inability to find the back of the net on a consistent basis, we can see Wycombe emerging triumphant at the end of the 90 minutes.
