Arsenal Women will travel to Germany on Tuesday to face Bayern Munich Women in the quarter-finals of the Women's Champions League.

Bayern are appearing at this stage of the competition for a fifth consecutive season, while Arsenal are participating in their 15th European quarter-final.

Match preview

Impressively, Bayern finished the group stage level on 15 points with 2020-21 Champions League winners Barcelona.

However, the German side had to settle for second place due to their inferior head-to-head goal difference, which ultimately led to them being drawn against Group C winners Arsenal.

Bayern have lost three of their five Champions League quarter-final ties, including last season's meeting with Paris Saint-Germain.

The 4-3 aggregate defeat after extra time against PSG included a 2-1 loss in the home leg, but they will take confidence from the fact that they won all three of their group stage home games this term.

Alexander Straus' side head into Tuesday's contest in red-hot form after winning their last six matches in all competitions by a combined 18-1 scoreline.

After picking up 13 points in their six group games, Arsenal will participate in the quarter-finals of Europe's elite club competition for a record 15th time.

In their three away group matches, the Gunners thrashed reigning European Champions Lyon 5-1, drew against Juventus and hammered FC Zurich 9-1.

Despite faring well in the group stage, Arsenal have lost their last three Champions League quarter-finals, including a 3-1 aggregate defeat to Wolfsburg last season.

The Gunners rounded off the month of February with consecutive defeats in the Women's Super League and FA Cup, but they have bounced back to record three straight wins, including a victory in the League Cup final.

Due to their FA Cup fifth-round exit, the Gunners were not in action at the weekend, ensuring that they will be well-rested ahead of Tuesday's contest.

Team News

The hosts are unable to call upon the services of Giulia Gwinn and Linda Dallman, who are both sidelined with knee ligament injuries.

After Bayern thrashed Koln 5-0 on Friday, Straus is expected to name an unchanged lineup for Tuesday's first leg.

Having scored 13 goals across all competitions this term, Lea Schuller will be looking to add to her tally when she leads the line against Arsenal.

As for the visitors, they are still without long-term absentees Beth Mead and Vivianne Miedema, while Steph Catley could miss out with a foot problem.

Jonas Eidevall has opted to leave Gio Queiroz out of Arsenal's revised Champions League squad for the knockout rounds.

Jodie Taylor recently rejoined the club on a short-term deal until the end of the season, but she will be ineligible, having signed after the Champions League registration deadline.

Bayern Munich Women possible starting lineup:
Grohs; Rall, Viggosdottir, Kumagai, Hansen; Stanway, Zadrazil; Lohmann, Magull, Buhl; Schuller

Arsenal Women possible starting lineup:
Zinsberger; Wienroither, Williamson, Rafaelle, Maritz; Walti, Little, Maanum; Foord, McCabe, Blackstenius

We say: Bayern Munich Women 2-1 Arsenal Women

Bayern have won all 11 of their competitive home games this season, and we think that they will maintain their 100% home record by claiming a narrow win over Arsenal.
