Sports Mole

Relegation-threatened Brighton & Hove Albion Women will look to end their eight-game winless league run when they face Everton Ladies on Wednesday.

The visitors, who occupy sixth position in the Women's Super League table, will be hoping to make it four games without defeat.

Match preview

After being appointed Brighton boss last week, Melissa Phillips was thrown straight in at the deep end, as the Seagulls faced Manchester United in the FA Cup semi-finals in her first game in charge.

The South-coast side led at half time following a Mary Earps own goal, before strikes from Leah Galton and Alessia Russo turned the game in Man United's favour.

A 75th-minute from Danielle Carter looked set to send the semi-final to extra time, but a late Rachel Williams effort ultimately ended Brighton's FA Cup dreams.

Brighton will now turn their attention back to the WSL, and the bottom-placed side head into Wednesday's game with one point separating them from safety.

The midweek contest represents one of the two games in hand that the Seagulls have over the teams above them, and they will be hoping that they can boost their chances of survival by claiming their first league victory since November.

On the whole, Brian Sorensen's first season as Everton manager has been a positive one with the sixth-placed Toffees on track to secure a top-half finish.

Impressively, Everton have lost just one of their last eight league games, and they have managed to avoid defeat in their previous three outings.

In their most recent encounter against Tottenham Hotspur, Nicoline Sorensen's opener was cancelled out by Eveliina Summanen, but the Toffees managed to secure all three points in dramatic fashion thanks to Aggie Beever-Jones's 94th-minute winner.

If the Merseyside club are to secure all three points on Tuesday then they will have to improve in the final third, as Everton have failed to score in four of their seven away league games this season, including their last two.

They have at least proven to be a strong defensive force on the road, conceding just two away league goals all season.

Team News

Having missed Brighton's last two games, Guro Bergsvand is unlikely to feature in the matchday squad.

Megan Connolly could return to the lineup after dropping out of the side for Saturday's FA Cup semi-final defeat.

After coming off the bench to score her ninth competitive goal of the season at the weekend, Carter could be rewarded with a starting berth.

As for the visitors, goalkeeper Emily Ramsey is set to make her first appearance since January after returning to training.

Lucy Hope overcame an Achilles issue to feature for the final 29 minutes of the win over Spurs, and the 26-year-old is expected to come into the side for Wednesday's contest.

After scoring a late winner as a second-half substitute against Tottenham, Beever-Jones is set to be presented with a place in the starting XI.

Brighton & Hove Albion Women possible starting lineup:
L. Williams; Fox, Kullberg, Morse, Pattinson; Connolly, Bance; Sarri, Olme, Carter; Lee

Everton Ladies possible starting lineup:
Ramsey; Hope, Bjorn, Sevecke, George; Galli, Wheeler, Beever-Jones; Sorensen, Park, Snoeijs

We say: Brighton & Hove Albion Women 1-1 Everton Ladies

Brighton showed signs of improvement in Phillips's first game in charge, and we think that they will battle to a home draw against Everton.
