Sports Mole previews Saturday's Championship clash between Burnley and Swansea City, including predictions, team news and possible lineups.
Sports Mole

Burnley and Swansea City head into Saturday's fixture at Turf Moor with both clubs occupying a place in the top six of the Championship standings.

While the Clarets have featured in the playoff spots for much of the campaign, Swansea are the newcomers to the promotion race after four successive victories.

Match preview

With seven draws having been recorded in 13 matches, it would be easy to criticise Vincent Kompany's start to life at Burnley, but supporters will look past the stalemates and assess the side on their position in the table.

A 1-0 victory at Coventry City last weekend keeps Burnley in fourth position and within two points of the leaders and automatic promotion places, ensuring that the Belgian's beginning to his Clarets stint can be viewed in a positive light.

Goals remain an issue with Burnley not netting more than twice in any of their most recent seven outings, but possessing the joint-third best defensive record in the second tier has kept the club collecting points with regularity.

Nathan Tella scored his fifth strike of the campaign against the Sky Blues, moving him level with Jay Rodriguez at the top of the club's goalscoring charts.

The duo and Josh Brownhill have contributed 70% of Burnley's goals in the Championship, highlighting that other squad members need to back up their efforts heading into the final month before the World Cup.

At a time when Burnley are unbeaten in 10 games, Swansea are currently producing their best form since Russell Martin moved to the club at the start of 2021-22.

A four-match winning streak - which has included 10 goals - has transformed the Welsh outfit from relegation possibilities to promotion contenders.

Unlike with their previous two victories, Swansea controlled large parts of their game with Sunderland last time out, holding a two-goal lead at the break before eventually prevailing 2-1 at their home ground.

Although Joel Piroe failed to net for the third successive games, Martin will take the positives from this Swansea squad no longer being overly reliant on the previously free-scoring Dutchman.

While Burnley possess the only unbeaten home record in the Championship, Swansea have only lost one of their six away fixtures this season.

Team News

Despite making his first Championship start last weekend, Anass Zaroury may drop out of the Burnley XI for this fixture.

Johann Berg Gudmundsson is pushing for an opportunity on the flank, while Kompany has a decision to make regarding who to start at centre-back out of Jordan Beyer and Charlie Taylor.

Although Swansea got the better of Sunderland last week, the likes of Olivier Ntcham and Michael Obafemi are both pushing for recalls to the side.

However, a return for Ntcham appears most likely, potentially for Luke Cundle, while Matthew Sorinola is in contention to start at right wing-back.

Veteran defender Kyle Naughton may have to make do with a spot among the replacement for a second successive game.

Burnley possible starting lineup:
Peacock-Farrell; Vitinho, Harwood-Bellis, Beyer, Maatsen; Cullen, Cork; Gudmundsson, Brownhill, Tella; Rodriguez

Swansea City possible starting lineup:
Benda; Wood, Darling, Cabango; Sorinola, Fulton, Grimes, Manning; Ntcham, Cooper; Piroe

We say: Burnley 1-1 Swansea City

With this being a meeting with two of the form teams in the division, we are expecting a highly-competitive contest. While Swansea are enjoying their best-ever run under Martin, we cannot ignore the amount of draws that Burnley have recorded this campaign, leading us to predict a share of the spoils.
