Sports Mole previews Tuesday's League One clash between Burton Albion and Peterborough United, including predictions, team news and possible lineups.
Sports Mole

Burton Albion will be looking for back-to-back wins when they welcome playoff-chasing Peterborough United to the Pirelli Stadium on Tuesday night in League One.

The Brewers were victorious over Wycombe Wanderers in Staffordshire last time out, whereas Peterborough will be searching for a response following their disappointing defeat against Cheltenham Town.

Match preview

Burton eased their fears of a League One relegation battle after earning maximum points against Wycombe on Saturday, with first-half strikes from Dale Taylor and Joe Powell proving to be enough for the hosts.

Dino Maamria's side did not make life easy for themselves and were down to 10 men just before the half-time whistle, but the Brewers were able to hold onto a valuable win despite some intense spells of pressure in the second period from the visitors.

That win has moved the Staffordshire-based club up to 18th in the League One standings, five points ahead of 21st-placed Morecambe, with Burton having played two games fewer than any of the sides sitting inside the relegation zone.

The Brewers look set for another season of mid-table mediocrity in the third tier - the fourth of its kind since relegation from the Championship in the 2017-18 campaign - with the aim to now build for next season under the stewardship of 51-year-old Maamria.

Burton have a good record at the Pirelli Stadium in recent times - having gone unbeaten in their last four home matches - and will be looking to extend that spell under the lights on Tuesday night.

When chasing some notable clubs such as Derby County and Bolton Wanderers for a place in the top six, games against teams such as Cheltenham at home are ones that any promotion hopefuls must be collecting maximum points from.

Unfortunately for Posh, success did not materialise at the Weston Homes Stadium on Saturday, with a stunning long-range effort from Alfie May being the pick of the visitors' three goals on the afternoon as they secured an unlikely 3-0 victory.

Now having won just one of their last four matches, Darren Ferguson's men have hit a bump in the playoff-chasing road at the wrong time and desperately need to record regular wins between now and May to reach the top six.

Posh are currently ninth in the league standings with 54 points, 11 fewer than sixth-placed Bolton - albeit Ferguson's side have played two games fewer as the season approaches its business end.

As many sides find following relegation from the Championship, escaping the third tier at the first attempt is proving very challenging for Peterborough, with League One full of historic clubs who believe they belong higher up the footballing pyramid.

Team News

Burton are set to be without midfielder Deji Oshilaja for the visit of Peterborough after the 30-year-old received his marching orders in the first half against Wycombe on Saturday.

That dismissal just before the half-time interval saw youngster Mark Helm enter the field of play after the break, and the Englishman could be handed only the sixth start of his professional career on Tuesday night.

Posh boss Ferguson was quick to make changes during the defeat on Saturday, with both Hector Kyprianou and Ephron Mason-Clark substituted after just 25 minutes of the contest - neither would be expected to start in this one.

January signing Kabongo Tshimanga could be in line for his first start with his new club after appearing off the bench on Saturday, although any introduction of the ex-Chesterfield man is unlikely to displace Jonson Clarke-Harris from the XI.

Burton Albion possible starting lineup:
MacGillivray; Brayford, Hughes, Moon; Hamer, Helm, Powell, Ashworth; Walker, Kirk, Taylor

Peterborough United possible starting lineup:
Norris; Ward, Kent, Edwards, Ogbeta; Norburn, Taylor, Poku, Burrows, Tshimanga; Clarke-Harris

We say: Burton Albion 1-1 Peterborough United

Burton are back at the Pirelli after their success over Wycombe on Saturday and will be confident of earning back-to-back wins against a Peterborough side who are failing in their playoff push.

Posh can quickly put their damaging loss against Cheltenham behind them with a victory in Staffordshire at the home of the Brewers, but we believe it will be a frustrating evening for Ferguson's men.
