Sports Mole previews Tuesday's Championship clash between Hull City and Rotherham United, including predictions, team news and possible lineups.
Sports Mole

Managerless Rotherham United will attempt to end a five-game winless run when they face fellow Yorkshire side Hull City in Tuesday's Championship fixture.

The hosts, meanwhile, head into the midweek encounter having put together a promising spell of form after losing just one of their last five matches.

Match preview

Hull will carry significant momentum into Tuesday's contest after they produced a sensational second-half comeback to draw 2-2 in their away meeting with Swansea City at the weekend.

The Tigers looked set to suffer back-to-back away defeats when Jamie Paterson and Jerry Yates gave Swansea a two-goal lead inside 23 minutes, but Liam Rosenior's side showed great determination to mount an impressive fightback, with Jaden Philogene and Tyler Morton grabbing a goal apiece to ensure that the spoils were shared.

Having lost just one of their last five matches, Hull are currently sitting in eighth position with just one point separating them from sixth-placed Preston North End.

After making the trip to Wales at the weekend, the Tigers will return to the MKM Stadium for the midweek fixture, and after beating Preston North End and Huddersfield Town in their last two home games, the hosts have the chance to record three consecutive home league victories for the first time since July/August 2022.

They will also be looking to extend their unbeaten record against Rotherham, with their last six competitive meetings producing four wins and two draws.

Rotherham are without a permanent manager after they took the decision to sack Matt Taylor following a heavy 5-0 defeat to Watford before the international period.

While there was an expectation that Rotherham would appoint Taylor's successor during the two-week break, they went in Friday's tricky home game against Leeds United with Wayne Carlisle in interim charge.

Although he was unable to get off to a winning start, the caretaker boss would have been pleased to see his side show great character to take a point off the promotion hopefuls after Hakeem Odoffin scored the crucial equaliser in first-half stoppage time to cancel out Crysencio Summerville's opener.

Despite holding Leeds to a 1-1 draw, the Millers remain four points adrift of safety, having won just two, drawn six and lost nine of their 17 league games this season.

With both of those victories taking place on home turf, Rotherham are one of three teams still searching for their first Championship away win of the campaign, but even claiming a point could prove to be a tough ask after losing seven of their eight away league games this season (D1).

Team News

Adama Traore, who has missed Hull's last two matches, is closing in on a return to action, but it remains to be seen whether he will be passed fit for Tuesday's encounter.

The Tigers will definitely be without the services of midfielder Regan Slater, who has not played since scoring in a 1-1 draw against Plymouth Argyle in September.

After coming off the bench to provide two assists at the weekend, Cyrus Christie is set to be given his seventh league start of the season, and he could be joined in the lineup by Jason Lokilo.

Rotherham will be without Sam Clucas and Cafu after the pair sustained hamstring injuries in the 5-0 defeat to Watford earlier this month.

The midfield duo are joined on the sidelines by Cameron Humphreys, Tyler Blackett, Shane Ferguson and Andre Green.

Carlisle could be tempted to name an unchanged lineup after his side showed signs of promise in Friday's draw with Leeds.

Hull City possible starting lineup:
Allsop; Christie, Jones, Greaves, Coyle; Morton, Seri; Lokilo, Twine, Philogene-Bidace; Delap

Rotherham United possible starting lineup:
Johansson; Peltier, Morrison, Ayala, Bramall; Onyedinma, Tiehi, Revan; Rathbone; Nombe

We say: Hull City 2-1 Rotherham United

Although Rotherham would have been encouraged by Friday's draw with Leeds, their poor away form leaves little to be desired, and we think that their struggles on the road will continue with a defeat against a Hull side that have won their last two home matches.
