Sports Mole

Manchester City Women will attempt to claim their eighth consecutive victory in all competitions when they play host to Brighton & Hove Albion Women in the Women's Super League on Sunday.

The visitors, meanwhile, have proven to be a tough team to beat in recent weeks, winning two and drawing one of their last three competitive games.

Match preview

Man City are currently in impressive form after winning their last seven games in all competitions, with five of those victories taking place in the WSL.

In their most recent league game, Man City claimed a narrow 2-1 away victory over Everton thanks to Julie Blakstad and Khadija Shaw.

Another victory followed in the League Cup against Sunderland last weekend, with Hayley Raso, Blakstad and Shaw all scoring to help the Citizens cruise to a comfortable 3-0 win.

Gareth Taylor's side will turn their attention back to the WSL, where they are currently sat in fourth place with three points separating them from the top three.

Having won their last four home matches by a 15-1 scoreline, the Citizens will be confident that they can continue their winning run on Sunday.

Meanwhile, Brighton have recovered from an 8-0 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur, which resulted in Hope Powell's resignation as manager, to embark on a three-game unbeaten run in all competitions under interim boss Amy Merrick.

After beating West Ham 5-4, the Seagulls looked set to claim a second straight victory when they took a 3-1 lead against Liverpool, but they conceded two late goals, ensuring that they had to settle for a 3-3 draw.

Although they were unable to claim a victory against the Reds, Brighton managed to claim a 2-1 victory against London City Lionesses in the League Cup last weekend.

Elisabeth Terland saw his opening goal cancelled out by Karin Muya, but a second-half effort from Victoria Williams guided the Seagulls to a narrow win.

After losing their last three meetings with Man City by a combined 23-3 scoreline, Brighton will have to be at their very best if they are to continue their unbeaten run on Sunday.

Team News

Ruby Mace and Alanna Kennedy both made their first Man City appearances since returning from injury when they come off the bench against Sunderland, and the pair are expected to be among the substitutes on Sunday.

Lauren Hemp and Vicky Losada are both closing in on a return to full fitness, although the pair may not be risked for Sunday's match.

Shaw is currently the WSL joint top-scorer with eight goals to her name, and she will look to add to that tally when she leads the line against Brighton.

As for the visitors, Rebekah Stott is expected to miss out through injury, although Maisie Symonds and Megan Connolly have recently returned from a spell on the sidelines.

Connolly started the League Cup win over Birmingham, and she could be included in Sunday's lineup, while Symonds is expected to be on the bench after being an unused substitute last weekend.

Terland has scored in her last three appearances for Brighton, and she will be looking to continue her impressive form when she starts up front on Sunday.

Manchester City Women possible starting lineup:
MacIver; Casparij, Aleixandri, Morgan, Ouahabi; Hasegawa, Castellanos, Coombs; Kelly, Blakstad, Shaw

Brighton & Hove Albion Women possible starting lineup:
Walsh; Green, Williams, Kullberg, Pattinson; Robinson, Zigiotti Olme, Connolly, Sarri; Terland, Carter

We say: Manchester City Women 3-1 Brighton & Hove Albion Women

Brighton have performed well in their last three games, but we think that their unbeaten run will come to an end against an in-form Manchester City side.
