Sports Mole previews Monday's Championship clash between Rotherham United and Millwall, including predictions, team news and possible lineups.
Sports Mole

Rotherham United play host to Millwall on Easter Monday knowing that they realistically require all three points to put off relegation from the Championship for another few days.

Meanwhile, Millwall appear to be on the cusp of escaping a battle to avoid the drop, the Lions now in 16th position in the standings.

Match preview

While Rotherham have reached a stage where relegation to the third tier is all but confirmed, Leam Richardson will be demanding far more from his side than he got on Good Friday.

Preston North End were able to breeze to maximum points at Deepdale courtesy of three goals scored during a 20-minute period during the first half.

Although no further strikes were conceded after the break, Rotherham again failed to get on the scoresheet, with the Millers having now gone well in excess of 500 minutes since doing so.

There is now a 19-point gap to safety with seven matches left, yet that is effectively irrelevant with Richardson and his squad fighting for their future roles at the club.

Despite 16 of Rotherham's 20 points in this season's Championship coming at the New York Stadium, you have to go all the way back to Boxing Day for their last success.

Millwall were once deemed direct relegation rivals to Rotherham, yet the managerial appointment of Neil Harris has instigated an unforeseen turnaround in fortunes.

The returning club legend has accumulated 11 points from his opening six games in charge, with their only defeat coming by a 2-0 scoreline at Leeds United before the international break.

Harris's side were able to bounce back from that disappointment on Friday as they earned a 1-1 draw at home to West Bromwich Albion, a result that left them five points clear of the bottom three.

There are enough games with direct rivals to ensure that Millwall are not safe from the drop just yet, but triumphing in Yorkshire on Monday would put them on the brink of being able to start planning for 2024-25.

Team News

Richardson will inevitably ring the changes to his Rotherham XI with Cohen Bramall, Andy Rinomhota and Tom Eaves all pushing for recalls.

Shane Ferguson may also come back into the fold with Richardson potentially considering reverting to a back three.

As for Millwall, Harris is only likely to tinker with his starting lineup if he wishes to bring some fresh legs into the team.

Brooke Norton-Cuffy and Ryan Longman are most likely to be recalled, while Dan McNamara could feature in one of the full-back positions.

Kevin Nisbet will again miss out through injury, potentially resulting in Zian Flemming and Michael Obafemi keeping their spots in attack.

Rotherham United possible starting lineup:
Johansson; Peltier, Odoffin, Humphreys, Bramall; Nombe, Lindsay, Rinomhota, Clucas, Ferguson; Eaves

Millwall possible starting lineup:
Sarkic; Leonard, Tanganga, Cooper, Bryan; Norton-Cuffy, Mitchell, Saville, Longman; Obafemi, Flemming

We say: Rotherham United 1-2 Millwall

While Rotherham will give everything to find a small bit more respectability in this league, that may not prove enough to earn a result here. Millwall have been extremely solid under Harris, and we are anticipating a narrow victory at the New York Stadium.
