Sports Mole previews Friday's friendly clash between South Korea and Peru, including predictions, team news and possible lineups.
Sports Mole

Jurgen Klinsmann will attempt to claim his first win as South Korea boss when his side welcomes Peru to the Busan Asiad Main Stadium.

The visitors, meanwhile, will be looking to return to winning ways in Friday's friendly after failing to win their last two matches.

Match preview

Three years after leaving his position as Hertha BSC boss, Jurgen Klinsmann returned to football management earlier this year when he was announced as Paulo Bento's successor.

Bento left his position following South Korea's last-16 exit at the 2022 World Cup, ending his four-year stint as manager of the Taeguk Warriors.

Klinsmann began his tenure during the March international window, overseeing a 2-2 draw against Colombia in his first game in charge.

Just days later, South Korea went on to lose 2-1 to Uruguay in Seoul, leaving Klinsmann without a win in his opening two matches.

The 58-year-old will be desperate to get his first victory in the next two friendlies against Peru and El Salvador, otherwise, he will have to wait until September for another chance to record a win.

In contrast to their hosts, Peru failed to qualify for the World Cup in Qatar, but they ended 2022 on a positive note, recording three consecutive victories.

Unfortunately for La Blanquirroja, they were unable to carry that impressive form into the March international window, where they failed to win either of their two friendlies.

After losing 2-0 to Germany in Mainz, Juan Reynoso's side played out a goalless draw with 2022 World Cup semi-finalists Morocco.

With a year to go until the start of the Copa America, Peru will be looking to build momentum, starting with their upcoming friendlies against South Korea and Japan.

Having failed to score more than one goal in seven of their last eight matches, the South Americans will be hoping to show an improvement in front of goal on Friday.

Team News

Lee Kang-in, who is reportedly closing in on a move to Paris Saint-Germain, could be given a starting opportunity after enjoying a successful campaign with Mallorca, registering six goals and seven assists in 36 La Liga appearances.

Son Heung-min recently revealed that he underwent surgery on a hernia injury last month, but he has recovered in time to face Peru.

South Korea are expected to field a relatively experienced backline, which could include Jung Seung-hyun and Park Ji-soo as the two central defenders.

As for the visitors, Pedro Gallese will start in goal, and he could be shielded by the centre-back pairing of Anderson Santamaria and Miguel Araujo.

With 120 international caps to his name, Yoshimar Yotun is homing in on Roberto Palacios's appearance record for Peru, which currently stands at 128 games, and the midfielder could be utilised off the bench on Friday.

After helping Cagliari win promotion to Serie A via the Serie B playoffs, Gianluca Lapadula may be given the responsibility of leading the line against South Korea.

South Korea possible starting lineup:
Seung-gyu; Young-woo, Seung-hyun, Ji-soo, Ki-je; Kang-in, Seon-min, In-beom, Jae-sung; Ui-jo, Heung-min

Peru possible starting lineup:
Gallese; Lora, Santamaria, Araujo, Trauco; Cartagena, Aquino; Flores, Gonzales, Cueva; Lapadula

We say: South Korea 1-1 Peru

South Korea will be looking to record their first win under Klinsmann's watch, but we think that they will be held to a draw by their South American opponents, who have lost just one of their last five matches.
