Sports Mole previews Saturday's FA Cup clash between Wycombe Wanderers and Morecambe, including predictions, team news and possible lineups.

A place in the FA Cup third round will be at stake when League One side Wycombe Wanderers welcome fourth-tier Morecambe to Adams Park on Saturday.

The Chairboys have lost their last two matches, while the visitors head to Buckinghamshire off the back of four consecutive defeats.

Match preview

After suffering back-to-back first-round exits, Wycombe are competing in round two for the first time since the 2020-21 season.

The Chairboys claimed a narrow 2-1 away win over fourth-tier Bradford City earlier this month to set up a second-round tie against another League Two side.

Matt Bloomfield's side may be pleased to have the distraction of a cup fixture after failing to win any of their last seven league matches (D3, L4).

They have lost each of their previous three games in League One, including Tuesday's meeting with Barnsley, which resulted in a 1-0 loss after Sam Crosgove found the net in stoppage time to snatch all three points.

With their attention set to turn to Saturday's cup fixture, the hosts will be concerned by their recent home form, having won just one of their last five competitive matches at Adams Park (D1, L3).

Morecambe, meanwhile, have experienced a recent change in manager after Derek Adams decided to leave the club and return to Scotland for a third spell with Ross County.

Ged Brannan and John McMahon were subsequently placed in interim charge, overseeing a demoralising 6-0 away defeat to League Two promotion hopefuls Wrexham.

Following the forgettable trip to North Wales, the Morecambe hierarchy opted to give Brannan the manager's job on a full-time basis.

In his first game as permanent manager, Brannan saw his side lose 2-1 to Newport County in Tuesday's home fixture despite the fact that Morecambe took the lead through Michael Mellon.

The Shrimps, who occupy 12th place in the League Two table, have now lost four consecutive matches in all competitions, and they will be desperate to return to winning ways on Saturday as they look to reach the third second of the FA Cup for the third time in four seasons.

Team News

Wycombe will be without the services of Jason McCarthy, Kane Vincent-Young and Brandon Hanlan, who are ruled out through injury.

Freddie Potts and Sam Vokes are continuing to work their way back from their respective injury issues, but the pair are unlikely to return in time for Saturday's contest.

Luke Leahy could miss a fourth straight game with concussion, while Harry Boyes will serve a one-match suspension after being sent off on Tuesday.

As for the visitors, they are unable to call upon long-term absentee Stuart Moore, while Donald Love will miss out due to an ankle injury.

After dropping to the bench for the midweek defeat to Newport, Jordan Slew could return to the starting lineup for Saturday's FA Cup meeting.

Having scored 12 goals in 20 competitive appearances this season, Mellon will look to continue his fine form when he leads the line against Wycombe.

Wycombe Wanderers possible starting lineup:
Stryjek; Low, Forino-Joseph, Tafazolli; Pattenden, Scowen, Phillips, Jacobson; Wheeler, McCleary, D. Taylor

Morecambe possible starting lineup:
Smith; Senior, Rawson, Bedeau, Tutonda; King, McKiernan; Bloxham, Mayor, Slew; Mellon

We say: Wycombe Wanderers 2-1 Morecambe

With Wycombe experiencing a poor run of league form, their last three competitive victories have all taken place in cup competitions.

With that in mind, we think that the Chairboys will do enough to claim a narrow win over a Morecambe side that have lost their last four matches.
