Manchester United Women will look to do their part in the Women's Super League title race when they face Liverpool Women on the final day of the 2022-23 season.

With two points separating them from league leaders Chelsea, the Red Devils do not control their own destiny, but a win on Saturday would be enough to capitalise on any slip-ups from the Blues.

Match preview

After winning promotion from the Championship last season, Liverpool boss Matt Beard will be satisfied with his side's 23-point tally, which is set to secure them a respectable seventh-placed finish.

However, Beard would have been disappointed to see his side let a lead slip on two occasions in last weekend's 3-3 away draw against Aston Villa.

After falling behind in the seventh minute, the Reds moved in front thanks to goals from Katie Stengel and Natasha Dowie, before Aston Villa's Rachel Daly equalised in first-half stoppage time.

Stengel grabbed her second of the game in the 62nd minute, but Liverpool's hopes of victory were ended by Kirsty Hanson's leveller, ensuring that the Reds end the 2022-23 campaign without a win in any of their 11 WSL away games (D6, L5).

Liverpool will now return to Prenton Park for their final game of the season, where they will have the chance to record a fourth consecutive home victory.

Man United claimed a dramatic 2-1 win over local rivals Manchester City last weekend to send the title race to the last day of the season.

The Red Devils opened the scoring in the second minute thanks to Hayley Ladd's long-range strike, before Man City goalkeeper Ellie Roebuck was sent off in first-half stoppage time to put Man United in the driving seat.

Despite boasting a numerical advantage, Marc Skinner's side looked to have handed the title to Chelsea when Man City equalised in the second period, but Lucia Garcia proved to be Man United's hero, coming off the bench to score a 91st-minute winner.

Although Man United will be pleased with the fact that they have qualified for the Women's Champions League for the first time in their history, they still have an outside chance to win their first WSL title.

They will be crowned champions if they beat Liverpool and Chelsea lose to basement side Reading, who are fighting for their WSL survival, while a point for Emma Hayes's side would require Man United to win by a six-goal margin.

Team News

The hosts are still unable to call upon Melissa Lawley, who recently underwent surgery on a hip issue.

Liverpool have announced that several players will leave at the end of the season, including Carla Humphrey, Leighanne Robe, and Rhiannon Roberts, who are all expected to be part of Saturday's matchday squad.

After taking her tally to nine league goals for the season with a brace against Aston Villa, Stengel will be looking to bring up her double figures this weekend.

As for the visitors, Skinner has the majority of his squad available to him, although Maria Thorisdottir and Aoife Mannion are both sidelined.

Despite coming off the bench to score a winner against Man City, Garcia may have to settle for a place among the substitutes.

Alessia Russo will continue to lead the line, and she will be looking to add to the 10 goals that she has scored this season.

Liverpool Women possible starting lineup:
Kirby; Bonner, Roberts, Matthews; Koivisto, Taylor, Nagano, Hinds; Kearns; Stengel, Dowie

Manchester United Women possible starting lineup:
Earps; Batlle, Le Tissier, Turner, Blundell; Ladd, Zelem; Parris, Toone, Galton; Russo

We say: Liverpool Women 1-3 Manchester United Women

Man United know that the title race is out of their hands, but we think that they will keep up their end of the bargain by claiming a seventh consecutive league victory.
