Sports Mole previews Wednesday's friendly clash between Napoli and Brest, including predictions, team news and possible lineups.
Sports Mole

Napoli will be looking to extend their winning run to four matches when they face French side Brest at Stadio Teofilo Patini on Wednesday.

Since Antonio Conte took the reins, the Partenopei have been victorious in all three of their pre-season friendlies, while Les Pirates are hoping to avoid consecutive defeats.

Match preview

Napoli endured a disappointing Serie A campaign last season, finishing a distant tenth and missing out on European qualification.

The club went through three managers during a turbulent year, with none able to deliver significant improvement and were all eventually fired.

With Conte at the helm, the club are aiming for a return to the title challenge and have made an impressive start to pre-season.

Comfortable victories over Anaune Val di Non (4-0), Mantova (3-0), and Egnatia Rrogozhine (4-0) have generated optimism among Napoli fans.

Brest, however, will provide a sterner test than the opposition faced so far, and Conte will be keen to see how his side fares against higher-quality opposition.

As the club prepares for life without star striker Victor Osimhen, who was omitted from the squad for the Egnatia game, Conte will continue to experiment with different lineups in the remaining friendlies.

Brest enjoyed a remarkable 2023-24 season, securing a third-place finish and qualifying for the Champions League for the first time in their history.

However, their pre-season preparations have been mixed, with one win, one draw, and one defeat from their opening three matches.

A 2-0 victory over Avranches in their opening pre-season game was followed by a 1-1 draw with Lorient and a 1-0 loss to Stade Laval in their most recent outing.

With three more friendlies to play before their league opener against Marseille on August 18, manager Eric Roy will be aiming to fine-tune his squad for the challenges ahead.

Team News

With the uncertainty surrounding his future, Osimhen is likely to remain unused during pre-season as Conte will look to build the team around players confirmed to remain in Napoli.

There have been holistic changes in the previous friendlies involving the Blues and we expect it to remain the same on Wednesday.

Brest have made some signings ahead of the new season, with centre-Back Julien Le Cardinal making the switch from Lens and another defender Abdoulaye Ndiaye joining from Troyes.

Experienced forward Ludovic Ajorque was also signed on a loan deal from Bundesliga side Mainz.

Napoli possible starting lineup:
Meret; Di Lorenzo, Rrahmani, Juan Jesus; Mazzocchi, Anguissa, Lobotka, Spinazzola; Politano, Raspadori; Simeone

Brest possible starting lineup:
Leroy; Abergel, Bamba, Mendy, Mouyokolo; Mugisha, Pagis, Ponceau, Talbi, Tosin; Yongwa

We say: Napoli 3-1 Brest

Napoli have been ruthless in pre-season, while Brest have struggled for consistency, and this is why we are backing Conte's men to be victorious once again at the final whistle.
