Sports Mole previews Sunday's Eredivisie clash between SBV Excelsior and Feyenoord, including predictions, team news and possible lineups.
Sports Mole

With the 2022-23 Eredivisie title in touching distance, Feyenoord visit Van Donge & De Roo Stadion on Sunday to face off against SBV Excelsior.

Meanwhile, the hosts will be aiming to move out of the relegation zone with time running out for them to preserve their top-flight status.

Match preview

Feyenoord made it 10 league wins on the spin thanks to a comprehensive 3-1 victory over FC Utrecht when the teams locked horns at De Kuip two Sundays ago.

Arne Slot's men broke the deadlock after just 15 minutes through Sebastian Szymanski before second-half goals from Santiago Gimenez and Alireza Jahanbakhsh put the result beyond doubt, rendering Bas Dost's strike inconsequential.

Consequently, De Stadionclub remain comfortably clear at the top of the Eredivisie table, eight points better off nearest challengers PSV Eindhoven.

Awaiting them next is the task of facing off against an opposing outfit who have been beaten in all but two of the last 15 editions of this fixture across all competitions.

Off the back of a first away defeat of 2023 in their most recent outing on the road, Sunday's visitors now set out to avoid back to back losses on enemy territory for the first time in nine months.

Excelsior failed to come away with all three points from yet another away match following a goalless stalemate against Vitesse at GelreDome a fortnight ago.

Despite failing to record any attempts on target, Marinus Dijkhuizen's men held firm at the other end, thanks in no small part to Stijn van Gassel's heroics between the sticks.

As a result, the Kralingers have now slipped into the relegation zone, albeit on goal difference as the season enters into its final knockings.

Having picked up 23 of their 28 points so far on home turf, Sunday's hosts go in search of a crucial win in front of their fans as they look to beat the drop.

Team News

Vicente Besuijen misses out for Excelsior as he continues to battle with a muscle injury, while Nathan Markelo is still nursing a knock which he picked up on international duty.

Jacky Donkor remains without an appearance since the turn of the year due to a knee injury, and the Belgian is facing an extended spell on the sidelines.

Marouan Azarkan has been in and out of the starting XI of late through injury, making the forward's involvement this weekend highly doubtful.

Mimeirhel Benita and Quinten Timber are guaranteed absentees for Feyenoord with knee problems, but the former is drawing increasingly closer to a return to action.

This weekend's visitors will also be without the services of 21-year-old Patrik Walemark, whose hip injury has seen him miss 17 consecutive matches.

SBV Excelsior possible starting lineup:
Van Gassel; Zagre, Pierie, El Yaakoubi, Horemans; Koopmeiners, Baas; Naujoks, Goudmijn, Driouech; Lamprou

Feyenoord possible starting lineup:
Bijlow; Pedersen, Geertruida, Hancko, Lopez; Wieffer, Kokcu; Paixao, Szymanski, Idrissi; Gimenez

We say: SBV Excelsior 0-4 Feyenoord

Feyenoord have been near-perfect on the road all-season long, and it is hard to envisage any other outcome rather than a win for them. We are tipping the visitors to cruise to a comfortable victory, scoring plenty of goals en route.
