Sports Mole previews Tuesday's National League clash between Wrexham and Halifax Town, including predictions, team news and possible lineups.
Sports Mole

Wrexham host Halifax Town at the Racecourse Ground in the National League on Tuesday night.

The home side could go top with a victory, while the visitors will be looking for a result to move them further away from the relegation zone.

Match preview

Wrexham drew 1-1 away at Boreham Wood on Saturday, a result that meant they stayed second in the National League standings, three points behind leaders Notts County.

Danny Newton opened the scoring for Boreham Wood 30 minutes in before Aaron Hayden equalised early in the second half to ensure that the spoils were shared.

A 1-0 away defeat at fellow title-chasers Notts County at the start of October is the only defeat in 11 league games for Phil Parkinson's side, putting a great run together at the start of the season, largely due to their attacking prowess.

Indeed, the Welsh side are the top scorers in the National League, netting 39 goals in 14 games, five more than any other team have managed.

The strike partnership of Paul Mullin and Ollie Palmer has been particularly impressive, with the pair responsible for 19 combined goals so far this season, both scoring in Wrexham's last home league fixture, a 7-5 victory over Barnet.

The Dragons have a good recent history against their opponents, winning the last three matches contested between the two sides, which will give them confidence going into Tuesday's game.

Halifax have so far struggled to replicate their form in the 2021-22 season, in which they finished fourth, currently sitting in 18th, just three points above the relegation zone.

It was always going to be a difficult ask for the Yorkshire club to make another push for the playoffs, especially with former-manager Pete Wild leaving to join Barrow in the summer, but the Shaymen got off to a very poor start, picking up just one point in their first five games.

In contrast to their opponents, goals have been a real issue for the side now managed by Chris Millington, only managing 11 in 14 league outings, the lowest amount of any side in the league.

Despite their poor results at the beginning of the season, the Shaymen have shown signs of improvement in recent matches, picking up seven points in their last three games, also progressing in the FA Cup with a 3-0 win at St Ives Town.

Most recently, Halifax were 2-0 winners at home against Dagenham and Redbridge, with Emmanuel Dieseruvwe opening the scoring on the hour mark, and Jesse Debrah adding another late on, securing an important three points.

Team News

Paul Mullin and Ollie Palmer are set to start up front for Wrexham, having both started in every league match for the side so far this season.

Rob Lainton, Reece Hall-Johnson and Harry Lennon have not yet featured so far this season, but they have all returned to full training and could get some minutes on Tuesday night.

Jacob Mendy remains absent with a hamstring injury that has caused him to miss the last four league matches, while Christian Dibble is also missing due to a knee issue.

For Halifax, Matty Warburton has returned to training after recovering from a knee injury, and he is a possibility to be included in the squad against Wrexham.

Defender Tom Clarke returned to the squad against Dagenham after recovering from flu-like symptoms, but the captain may find it hard to get back into the team after a clean sheet at the weekend, with Jesse Debrah impressing.

Emmanuel Dieseruvwe is set to lead the line again for the Shaymen, having scored two goals in his last two games, taking his tally for the season to five.

Wrexham possible starting lineup:
Howard; Hayden, Tozer, Tunnicliffe, McFadzean; Jones, Young, Forde, Lee; Mullin, Palmer

Halifax Town possible starting lineup:
Johnson; Golden, Arthur, Debrah, Senior; Hunter, Summerfield, Spence, Cooke, Slew; Dieseruvwe

We say: Wrexham 4-0 Halifax Town

Although Halifax have improved recently, Wrexham should come away comfortable winners in Tuesday's encounter. The Welsh side have a great recent record against Halifax and they boast a formidable attack, which is likely to be too much for the Shaymen's backline to handle.
