Sports Mole

Wrexham face Maidenhead United in the National League on Tuesday, with the home side looking for their third win at the Racecourse Ground in the space of a week.

The visitors come into the game off the back of a 1-0 victory at the weekend, defeating playoff-chasing Bromley 1-0.

Match preview

Wrexham have put together a sensational run of form recently, only losing one of their last fifteen outings in all competitions, leaving them second in the National League standings.

A 4-0 thrashing of Altrincham at the weekend ensured that the Dragons kept the pace with league-leaders Notts County, who also won 4-0 on home turf, defeating bottom-placed Torquay United.

In trademark style, Paul Mullin opened the scoring, netting after 31 minutes, before strike-partner Ollie Palmer also got in on the act, scoring a brace, with the fourth goal coming from James Jones with just over ten minutes to play.

As a result, Phil Parkinson's side are currently three points off first, and it is shaping up to be a battle between them and Notts County for the National League title, with Wrexham five points clear of third-placed Chesterfield and 10 clear of Solihull Moors, who occupy fourth.

The Dragons are the league's top scorers, with 46 goals in just 16 games, and they also boast a formidable home record, winning every single league game that they have played at the Racecourse Ground this season, a statistic that will make grim reading for Maidenhead.

Indeed, the Magpies will be heading into the game as underdogs, as every side who goes to Wrexham does, but they will be given hope by an impressive 1-0 win against Bromley on Saturday, with Cole Kpekawa netting a late winner.

The result ended a two-game losing streak for Alan Devonshire's side, having lost 2-1 to Barnet and 2-0 to Solihull Moors in the week prior, with the result moving them up to 15th in the standings, six points clear of the relegation zone.

Winning closely-contested games has been key for Maidenhead, with five of their six league wins coming by one-goal margins, a good trait to have in a side where the main focus is likely to be maintaining their place in the National League.

One area they will want to improve, however, is in the goal-scoring department, having only scored 15 league goals this season, the fourth-fewest amount of any side, and the second-fewest outside of the relegation zone.

Team News

Buoyed by their goal-scoring form at the weekend, Mullin and Palmer are both set to start again for the Dragons on Tuesday night, having both been brought off early to preserve their fitness.

Jacob Mendy will not be available however, as he is still suffering with a hamstring injury that has ruled him out of the last five league matches, with goalkeeper Christian Dibble also missing with a knee issue.

Ben Tozer and Aaron Hayden have cemented themselves as the first-choice centre back pairing so far this season, with Hayden even managing to get seven goals, the third-highest tally of any Wrexham player, and they are likely to start again after keeping a clean sheet on Saturday.

Goalkeeper Daniel Gyollai saw red against Solihull Moors recently, and so Alexis Andre will start between the sticks for the Magpies, having kept a clean sheet in his first appearance for the club last time out.

Charlee Adams has weighed in with three goals in his last five games for Maidenhead, and he is likely to feature in midfield, in-behind Emile Acquah, who also has three goals to his name in the league this season.

Wrexham possible starting lineup:
Howard; Tunnicliffe, Hayden, Tozer, McFadzean; Jones, Forde, Young, Davies; Mullin, Palmer

Maidenhead United possible starting lineup:
Andre; Asare, Clerima, De Havilland, Kpekawa, Massey; Nathaniel-George, Smith, Upward, Adams; Acquah

We say: Wrexham 4-0 Maidenhead United

Wrexham regularly put plenty of goals past their opponents at the Racecourse Ground, and we expect them to do the same here. The Welsh side are on a really good run of form at the moment, and they will be wanting to keep the pressure on Notts County at the top.
