On Sunday, Manchester City Women will face their local rivals Manchester United Women in a Women's Super League contest at the Etihad Stadium.

The Citizens have recorded nine consecutive victories in all competitions, while the Red Devils have won seven of their eight league games this term.

Match preview

Man City are currently sat in fourth position in the WSL, with three points separating them from their local rivals, who occupy the third and final Champions League place.

The Citizens claimed a 3-1 victory over Brighton & Hove Albion last weekend thanks to strikes from Julie Blakstad and Laura Coombs as well as a Veatriki Sarri own goal.

They were in League Cup action during the week, and it proved to be another successful outing, with goals from Filippa Angeldal and Mary Fowler guiding Man City to a 2-0 win away to Liverpool.

Gareth Taylor's side will now attempt to record a 10th straight victory in all competitions, and their home form suggests that they will be confident of picking up all three points in the Manchester derby.

Including last season, Man City have won 10 and drawn one of their last 11 league games, and they have also won all three of their previous home meetings with Man United.

Man United have only lost one of their eight league games this season, which took place against the reigning WSL champions Chelsea.

The Red Devils responded to the 3-1 defeat to Chelsea with a 3-2 away victory over Arsenal, before they cruised to a comfortable win over Aston Villa last weekend.

Goals from Katie Zelem, Leah Galton, Alessia Russo, Ona Batlle and Rachel Williams helped Man United claim a commanding 5-0 victory against the Villans.

Although they recorded a third straight victory in all competitions during the week, a 4-2 success over Everton was not enough for Man United to progress from their League Cup group.

As they turn their attention back to league matters, Man United currently sit level on points with Arsenal and three points adrift of league leaders Chelsea with a game in hand, and they will be aiming to keep pace at the top with a victory in the Manchester derby.

Team News

Taylor made a number of changes to his Man City side for the League Cup win over Liverpool, but he could select the same lineup that started against Brighton last weekend.

Goalkeeper Ellie Roebuck will be shielded by the centre-back pairing of Laia Aleixandri and Alex Greenwood, and they will be looking to become the first team to keep a clean sheet against Man United in the WSL this season.

Meanwhile, Khadija Shaw is currently the joint-highest scorer in the WSL alongside Aston Villa's Rachel Daly with eight goals, and the Man City forward will look to add to her tally when she features up front.

As for the visitors, they also rotated their squad during the week, but like their rivals, Man United could revert back to the same starting XI that was selected for the 5-0 win over Aston Villa last weekend.

Maya Le Tissier will continue her central defensive partnership with Millie Turner, and the pair will have their work cut out against a Man City side who have scored at least two goals in each of their last nine games.

With four league goals to her name this season, Russo will have the responsibility of leading the line for Man United in the derby.

Manchester City Women possible starting lineup:
Roebuck; Casparij, Aleixandri, Greenwood, Ouahabi; Hasegawa, Castellanos, Coombs; Kelly, Blakstad, Shaw

Manchester United Women possible starting lineup:
Earps; Batlle, Le Tissier, Turner, Blundell; Ladd, Zelem; Parris, Toone, Galton; Russo

We say: Manchester City Women 2-2 Manchester United Women

Although Man City have won 10 of their last 11 league games, we think that they will have to settle for a point when they face their local rivals, who have only lost one WSL match this season.
