Aiming to continue their two-match winning streak in the Argentine Primera Division, Defensa y Justicia are set to travel to Estadio Jose Dellagiovanna to face Tigre.
The hosts will be looking to bounce back after their six-game unbeaten run ended last time out, while the visitors are without a defeat in any of their last three league fixtures.
Match preview
Tigre endured an extremely disappointing opening to the 2024 Argentine Primera Division, failing to win any of their first five matches as they recorded three losses and two draws.
They finally secured their opening victory of the campaign by beating Argentinos Juniors, and while their form has been improved in the games since, they have remained extremely inconsistent.
Tigre enjoyed their best run of the season in October and early November, going unbeaten with two wins and three draws, but that streak ended with a 1-0 loss to Velez Sarsfield last time out.
Those positive results have lifted Tigre to 16th in the standings, with 26 points from 21 games, six wins, eight draws, and seven losses, and they will be aiming to climb higher up the table in the season's remaining weeks.
Sebastian Enrique Dominguez, in charge since April 2024, will be hoping that a home match against Defensa can spark a rebound from their recent defeat. However, the visitors' strong form is likely to make this a challenging encounter.
Defensa will be extremely disappointed with how their 2024 Argentine Primera Division season has played out, as they currently sit 25th in the standings with 22 points from 21 games, a far cry from their sixth-placed finish last year.
They have managed just five wins and seven draws from their 21 outings, suffering nine defeats in that time, more than they have recorded in each of the last three years.
After going winless in their first 10 league games, Defensa finally secured a victory against Banfield, but their inconsistency continued, with only two more wins in their next eight matches.
However, they have appeared vastly improved in their last two outings, securing back-to-back wins for the first time this year as they defeated Belgrano and Argentinos Juniors 2-1.
Aiming to climb the table and extend their winning run, Defensa will travel to a stadium where they have remained undefeated in their last four visits, winning two of those matches.
Team News
The hosts are expected to be without five players for this game due to ongoing injury issues, including Angelo Marchese, Florian Monzon, Ijiel Protti, Martin Ortega and Ramon Arias.
Despite their loss in the last match, Dominguez will be encouraged by the strong performance against the league leaders, with Velez needing an own goal to secure the win, and may therefore opt to start the same lineup here.
As for the visitors, Gaston Togni will not return from his cruciate ligament injury until at least December, while Nicolas Palavecino is also ruled out until December with a knee injury.
Having secured victories in each of their last two matches, the first time they have managed this in the league this year, Defensa could field the same starting team here.
Tigre possible starting lineup:
Zenobio; Garay, Nardelli, Paz, Banegas; Armoa, Gonzalez, Cardozo, Galvan; Maroni, Ferreyra
Defensa y Justicia possible starting lineup:
Bologna; Rubio, Ferreira, Aguilera, Soto; Gutierrez, Perez; Lopez, Molinas, Bogarin; Osorio
We say: Tigre 1-2 Defensa y Justicia
The visitors will be full of confidence after securing two successive wins heading into this one, and with them boasting a strong record at this ground in recent meetings, we believe they will triumph again here.
