Sports Mole previews Saturday's Eredivisie clash between PSV Eindhoven and Go Ahead Eagles, including predictions, team news and possible lineups.
Sports Mole

PSV Eindhoven will be seeking to close the gap on league leaders Feyenoord this weekend when they welcome Go Ahead Eagles to the Philips Stadion on Saturday.

Both sides are looking to make amends after suffering defeats in midweek - the hosts' title bid was dealt a blow in a shock defeat to Emmen, while the visitors were comfortably beaten by AZ Alkmaar.

Match preview

PSV Eindhoven's title chances took a big blow on Tuesday as they were defeated 1-0 away to relegation-threatened Emmen.

Johan Bakayoko and Xavi Simons missed early chances for the Boeren before Emmen took the lead out of nowhere, as Lucas Bernadou's effort found the bottom corner.

That result leaves PSV in third place in the Eredivisie, six points behind league leaders Feyenoord, and Ruud van Nistelrooy will be eager to see his side respond this weekend.

PSV ended a winless run of three league games by beating Vitesse 1-0 last Saturday at home, with Guus Til's strike three minutes after the break proving enough to claim all three points for his team.

The Philips Stadion has been somewhat of a fortress for Van Nistelrooy's side this season - the Boeren have recorded seven wins from nine outings, collecting 22 points, giving them the second-best home record in the division.

Meanwhile, Go Ahead Eagles' 14-game unbeaten run across all competitions came to an end on Wednesday as AZ Alkmaar cruised to a 4-1 victory over Rene Hake's side at De Adelaarshorst.

The visitors were the stronger side and eventually broke the deadlock in the 38th minute through Vangelis Pavlidis, before Djordje Mihailovic doubled the lead with a header in the 57th minute.

Yukinari Sugawara's fine strike made it 3-0, and despite Willum Thor Willumsson pulling one back for the hosts from the penalty spot, Zico Buurmeester sealed the victory with a fourth goal for AZ late into stoppage time.

That defeat marked Go Ahead Eagles' sixth loss of the campaign as they currently sit in 11th place in the table, picking up 19 points from the 17 games they have played.

Hake will be eager to see his side bounce back from a disappointing defeat, which ended their unbeaten run, but they face a stern test at the Philips Stadion this weekend as PSV have won the last four meetings between these sides.

Team News

Mauro Junior will be suspended for Saturday's clash with the Eagles as he was given his marching orders just before the interval against Emmen, meaning Phillipp Mwene will likely take his place in the starting XI.

Luuk de Jong missed the match against Emmen with a head injury, and he looks set to be absent from Van Nistelrooy's side once again this weekend. The striker will also be joined on the treatment table by Kjell Peersman and Olivier Boscagli.

As for the visitors, Bas Kuipers and Philippe Rommens are both still out with injuries and will not feature in this clash.

Isac Lidberg has featured in every league game this season, so it seems likely he will lead the line for the Eagles this Saturday.

PSV Eindhoven possible starting lineup:
Benitez; Teze, Branthwaite, Obispo, Mwene; Sangare, Gutierrez; Simons, Til, Bakayoko; El Ghazi

Go Ahead Eagles possible starting lineup:
De Lange; Deiji, Nauber, Idzes, Kuipers; Tekie, Llansana, Willumsson, Edvardsen; Adekanye, Lidberg

We say: PSV Eindhoven 2-0 Go Ahead Eagles

This should be a comfortable victory for PSV Eindhoven, despite their shock defeat to Emmen in midweek.

The Boeren's home form has been sensational this season, and despite the best efforts of Go Ahead Eagles, PSV should be too strong here.
