Sports Mole previews Sunday's Argentine Primera Division clash between San Lorenzo and Colon, including predictions, team news and possible lineups.
Sports Mole

San Lorenzo will be aiming to cut the deficit to Argentine Primera Division leaders River Plate when they host Colon on Sunday.

The visitors, meanwhile, are involved in a massive cluster of teams towards the bottom of the table attempting to stave off relegation.

Match preview

Having finished sixth last season, San Lorenzo appear capable of winning their first Argentine title since 2013 under Ruben Insua's tutelage.

Los Santos have collected a decent points haul of 35 from 18 matches to move to second in the first phase table, although they face a battle to remain in the Copa Sudamericana after falling to a recent defeat to Fortaleza.

Insua's side will be hoping to bounce back from their loss to Barracas Central last weekend, too, after they could not find a tangible response to Alexis Dominguez's 12th-minute strike.

With San Lorenzo set to play two successive home matches in Argentina's top flight across the course of the next 10 days, Insua and his players will be confident of remaining within touching distance of River Plate at the top of the table.

Colon, meanwhile, finished one place behind their forthcoming opponents last season, but they have fallen a long way short of those standards so far during the current campaign.

Managed by Marcelo Arregin, who earned 33 caps for Uruguay during his playing career, Sabalero have taken just two points from their last three matches to slide perilously closer to the relegation zone.

However, Colon have remained tough to beat, with only Velez Sarsfield - who have played one match fewer than Arregin's side - being beaten as infrequently of all the teams beneath seventh position in the table.

In many ways, Colon's two successive draws in their last two matches have summed up their season so far, with an inability to turn draws into victories costing them from being involved in the top half of the table. That said, they would almost certainly settle for another share of the spoils on Sunday.

Team News

San Lorenzo will remain without Jeremias James due to a serious ACL injury, with the midfielder unlikely to return until next month.

Insua could make a few changes from the side that was defeated to Barracas last time out, with former Aston Villa midfielder Carlos Sanchez set to return to the hosts' engine room.

Colon, meanwhile, will travel without Joaquin Ibanez and Jorge Benitez due to muscle and knee issues respectively, while Stefano Moreyra is suspended after being sent off against Central Cordoba on Monday.

Facundo Farias could replace him in midfield should Arregin wish to go with a more offensive option, as he searches for the wins that his side require to move away from the drop zone.

San Lorenzo possible starting lineup:
Batalla; Perez, Gattoni, Hernandez; Elias, Sanchez, Martegani, Braida; Leguizamon, Barrios; Vombergar

Colon possible starting lineup:
I Chicco; Meza, Garces, Acevedo, Delgado, Alvarez; Farias, J. Chicco, Perlaza; Pierotti, Abila

We say: San Lorenzo 1-0 Colon

Despite sitting in the bottom half of the table, Colon have remained difficult to defeat this season, and we expect them to make San Lorenzo work hard for all three points on Sunday.

However, the hosts possess by far the best defensive record in the division, and this should help them return to winning ways.
