In the first of a weekly transfer roundup for the Championship this summer, SM reflects on each club's business so far since the season ended.
Birmingham City
After staying up in miraculous fashion on the final day of last season, Blues boss Lee Clark has been a busy boy so far in the transfer market. Three players - Stephen Gleeson, Jonathan Grounds and Grant Hall - have come in, while Aaron Martin and Hayden Mullins have left St Andrew's.
Earlier today, Clark admitted that Nikola Zigic and Chris Burke are likely to leave the club this summer after failing to agree terms on new contracts. Further arrivals are possible, with sought-after Dutch defender Tom Beugelsdijk, out-of-contract Burnley man David Edgar and former player Wes Thomas linked.
Blackburn Rovers
Gary Bowyer is yet to bring in any new players this summer, with Alan Judge leaving for Brentford after an unsuccessful first season at Ewood Park. Cost-cutting looks to be key as Bowyer has also transfer-listed six other players - Leon Best, DJ Campbell, David Goodwillie, Dickson Etuhu, Alex Marrow and Jordan Slew.
Holding on to Jordan Rhodes will be one of Bowyer's main aims this summer, and the 24-year-old hitman has reportedly been the subject of interest from relegated Norwich City and Premier League side Newcastle United. Tommy Spurr had an impressive first season at left-back and has signed a contract extension that will keep him at the club for two more seasons. Veteran midfielder David Dunn, meanwhile, is sure that he can again play a key role in 2014-15.
Blackpool
The Tangerines started last season on fire, but fell away dramatically and retained their place in the second tier on the final day. So far this summer it's been sell, sell, sell, with Kirk Broadfoot, Chris Basham and Mark Halstead all gone. The more pressing matter at Bloomfield Road is the appointment of a new manager, but Jose Riga is expected to be announced this week as Paul Ince's successor.
Ince's son, Thomas, is out of contract on the Lancashire coast this summer and despite flying to Inter Milan for talks, he could stay in England and opt for a Premier League move.
Bolton Wanderers
The Trotters have been busy, adding the most suitable player possible for the club in Liam Trotter as well as Liam Feeney, Dorian Dervite and Andy Robinson all on free transfers last month. Some big names also left the Reebok, and there is sure to be plenty of interest in the likes of Zat Knight, Chris Eagles and Tyrone Mears.
One player that does interest Dougie Freedman is former loanee Joe Mason, who now looks surplus to requirements at Cardiff City after the arrivals of Federico Macheda and Adam Le Fondre. The Trotters are not interested in Brentford frontman Clayton Donaldson, though.
Bournemouth
The Cherries, after achieving their highest league finish for 25 years, couldn't turn down Norwich's offer for Lewis Grabban, who has joined the Canaries after scoring 22 league goals last season. Replacing Grabban will be at the forefront of Eddie Howe's mind and he is believed to have had a bid turned down for Coventry City's Callum Wilson.
Former Everton and Newcastle man Dan Gosling is on his way to Dean Court, while former loanee Andrew Surman could also return. The South Coast club have also signed Harry Redknapp. No, not that one.
Brentford
The Bees, back in the Championship after finishing second in League One, have only been able to add Alan Judge permanently from Blackburn since the season ended.
Mark Warburton has offered a new contract to Donaldson and will also look to re-sign former loanees George Saville and Marcello Trotta. Young winger Josh Clarke has put pen to paper on a new contract. Leaving Griffin Park are Scott Barron, Farid El Alagui, Shaleum Logan and Liam O'Brien.
Brighton & Hove Albion
For the second straight season Brighton have lost their manager following defeat in the playoffs. Unlike last year, when Gus Poyet felt that he was ousted unfairly, Oscar Garcia resigned from his position and has since been replaced by Sami Hyypia. The former Liverpool defender and Bayer Leverkusen boss is yet to do any business, but plenty needs to be done after the release of key players such as Tomasz Kuszczak and David Lopez Moreno.
They also lost evergreen defender Matthew Upson, despite offering him a new contract, to newly-promoted Premier League side Leicester City. Replacing the departed is key, with relatively unknown midfielder Toko Nzuzi the only arrival so far. Stephen Ward could return after a successful season on loan from Wolves.
Cardiff City
The club from the Welsh capital lasted just one season in the top flight and now Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will test his managerial ability in the ever-difficult Championship. The Norwegian has added four players so far - Javi Guerra, Guido Bergstaller, Federico Macheda and Adam Le Fondre - but they did miss out on Grabban, who joined Norwich.
Plenty of big names are expected to leave the Bluebirds, with David Marshall, Fraizer Campbell, Steven Caulker, Jordan Mutch and Gary Medel expected to move on. One player, Andrew Taylor, has left the club to link up with Wigan Athletic.
Charlton Athletic
The Addicks now have a new man in charge, Bob Peeters, and the Belgian will want to add fresh faces after the departures of Ben Hamer, Dorian Dervite, Danny Green and Danny Hollands.
Former Arsenal man Zak Ansah is Peeters's first signing.
Derby County
Last season's defeated playoff finalists released five out-of-contract players, but want to bring back loanees George Thorne, Andre Wisdom and Patrick Bamford from the Premier League.
The Rams have made an offer for Thorne to West Bromwich Albion, but the Baggies don't want to sell the young midfielder. Young prospects Alban Bunjaku and Jonathan Mitchell have arrived from Sevilla and Newcastle United respectively.
Fulham
Felix Magath remains in charge of the Cottagers, back in the second tier after 13 seasons of top-flight football, but the German might not be in charge for much longer.
The Cottagers released several big names such as Damien Duff and Steve Sidwell and are yet to add any fresh faces. Brede Hangeland also exited the club in controversial circumstances, while club-record signing Kostas Mitroglou might not stay with the West London side.
Huddersfield Town
It's been an extremely quiet summer in terms of arrivals for the Terriers so far. Mark Robins hasn't secured any new faces, but will certainly need to after letting eight go, one of whom was club captain Peter Clarke.
Oliver Norwood could also leave, while Robins did manage to secure Danny Ward for next season.
Ipswich Town
After taking the Tractor Boys close to the playoffs last season, Mick McCarthy is yet to build on his squad for next season. Free transfers look to be the order of the day at Portman Road, while bids are expected for Aaron Cresswell and David McGoldrick.
Scott Loach and Carlos Edwards have moved to Rotherham and Millwall respectively.
Leeds United
The troubled takeover by Italian Massimo Cellino finally looks to be all sorted, and he is keen on keeping the bulk of the squad after meeting the players individually. The Whites, who are yet to appoint a new manager following the departure of Brian McDermott, possess the division's top scorer in Ross McCormack and fending off interest for the Scot will be tough.
Cellino has strong links to Cagliari and players like Davide Astori have been linked with moves to Elland Road. Promising young defender Charlie Taylor, meanwhile, has committed to the club.
Middlesbrough
Aitor Karanka let eight go, but none were particularly key players so there has been little incoming business yet.
Veteran goalkeeper Dimitrios Konstantopoulos has signed a new contract, while defenders look to be top of Karanka's priority as Wolves duo Richard Stearman and Stephen Ward are said to be of interest to the Riverside club.
Millwall
The Lions have lost Trotter and Feeney, but former loanee Edwards has arrived from Ipswich. Ian Holloway will want to move Millwall up the table next season and has said that he could target any departures from promoted side Queens Park Rangers.
The South London club have rejected an offer for Mark Beevers, but do hope to secure David Forde and Lee Martin on new contracts and sign Byron Webster from Yeovil Town.
Norwich City
After three seasons in the Premier League, the Canaries are back in the Championship with a squad that, on paper, looks very strong for the second tier. Neil Adams has also brought in Grabban to join strikers Gary Hooper, Ricky van Wolfswinkel and Luciano Becchio.
Hooper or Van Wolfswinkel are likely to be on their way, especially as the Norfolk club have been linked with McCormack and Rhodes, and Adams is certain that it won't be Hooper. The club's star players such as John Ruddy and Robert Snodgrass have been linked heavily with moves to regain their place in the Premier League.
Nottingham Forest
Forest will be led by Stuart Pearce next season and have already wrapped up deals for David Vaughan, Danny Fox and Matty Fryatt. Dutch frontman Lars Veldwijk is also expected to join, but has yet to be confirmed as a Forest player.
Seven players were released and Matt Derbyshire has signed for big-spending Rotherham.
Reading
The Royals missed out on the playoffs in cruel fashion to Brighton and look set for a big overhaul this summer. Nigel Adkins made the tough decision to release stalwarts Jobi McAnuff, Mikele Leigertwood and Kaspars Gorkss, also selling Le Fondre to Cardiff.
There is set to be interest in goalkeeper Alex McCarthy and winger Garath McCleary from the Premier League, while American teenager Andrija Novakovich has joined.
Rotherham United
The Millers have been the thrillers of the window so far, breaking their club-record transfer fee and signing five players following their victory in the League One playoffs.
Scott Loach, Kirk Broadfoot, Conor Newton and Derbyshire had already moved to the New York Stadium before today's club-record signing of Jordan Bowery from Aston Villa. Nicky Adams, meanwhile, has left to join Bury.
Sheffield Wednesday
An exciting summer looks to be on the cards for Owls fans after today's announcement that Azerbaijani businessman Hafiz Mammadov will buy the club.
Eight players have left, while youngsters Ryan Croasdale, Matt Young and Ed Sanders have moved to Hillsborough. The club are also said to be after Roger Johnson, Sam Hutchinson and Gavin Gunning.
Watford
The Hornets have added Premier League experience with the signings of Heurelho Gomes and Gabriel Tamas, but also lost some with the departure of Manuel Almunia and six others.
Interest is again expected in striker Troy Deeney, while Giuseppe Sannino is though to be keen on the likes of Danny Graham and Lloyd Dyer.
Wigan Athletic
Beaten playoff semi-finalists Wigan have got two and lost one so far this summer. Left-backs Taylor and Aaron Taylor-Sinclair have arrived from Cardiff and Partick Thistle, while playmaking midfielder Jordi Gomez has left for Sunderland.
Uwe Rosler still has a strong squad at his disposal, and with key injured players due to return, further arrivals seem unlikely at this stage.
Wolverhampton Wanderers
League One champions Wolves didn't stay down in the third tier for long and look destined for a strong season back in the Championship. Kenny Jackett has signed two players - Tommy Rowe and Rajiv van La Parra - and more look set to follow before the start of the season.
While defensive duo Stearman and Ward could be on their way, Kevin Doyle has returned from his loan at QPR and Jackett is also pursuing Sheffield United's Harry Maguire.
