Sports Mole

A place in the quarter-final of the KNVB Beker is up for grabs for both Feyenoord and PSV Eindhoven when they go head-to-head at De Kuip on Wednesday evening.

The home side just about edged out Utrecht in the last round of the Dutch Cup, while their visitors breezed past the challenge of Twente.

Match preview

Feyenoord secured safe passage into the last 16 of the KNVB-Beker by claiming a 2-1 victory over Utrecht when the teams faced off in Rotterdam on December 20.

Arne Slot's men raced to a two-goal lead early on thanks to strikes from Calvin Stengs and Igor Paixao after which Taylor Booth halved the deficit four minutes shy of half time.

Since then, De Stadionclub have picked up four points from their two subsequent league outings and currently sit second in the Eredivisie table.

Coming up next is the task of an opposing outfit who are unbeaten in the most recent five editions of this fixture across all competitions.

Having failed to keep a clean sheet in seven straight home matches leading up to Wednesday's affair, the hosts will need to tighten up at the back to stand a good chance of progressing here.

PSV Eindhoven had far too much quality for Twente as they cruised to a comfortable 3-1 triumph at the Philips Stadion on Wednesday evening.

Goals from Yorbe Vertessen, Luuk de Jong and Johan Bakayoko put Peter Bosz's men in the driving seat before Manfred Ugalde pulled one back midway through the second half.

De Rood-witten were held to a 1-1 stalemate by Utrecht in their last league outing, which saw their lead at the top of the standings drop to 10 points.

Unbeaten in each of their last nine games on the road, Wednesday's visitors have established themselves as a force to reckon with away from home.

Team News

PSV's Ismael Saibari is unavailable for this one as he remains in search of AFCON glory with Morocco, while Armel Bella-Kotchap continues to nurse a shoulder problem.

Joey Veerman has missed each of his side's last two matches with a muscle problem, but the midfielder is closing in on a return to action.

Despite failing to find the back of the net last time out, Luuk de Jong boasts eight goals in his last five matches, making the 33-year-old one to keep an eye on.

Yankuba Minteh and Ramiz Zerrouki are away at the Africa Cup of Nations with Gambia and Algeria respectively, ruling them out for Feyenoord.

The home side will also be without the services of Ayase Ueda and Alireza Jahanbakhsh, who are on international duty at the ongoing Asian Cup.

Feyenoord possible starting lineup:
Bijlow; Hartman, Hancko, Trauner, Geertruida; Timber, Stengs, Wieffer; Paixao, Gimenez, Dilrosun

PSV Eindhoven possible starting lineup:
Drommel; Dest, Boscagli, Ramalho, Teze; Til, Schouten, Tillman; Vertessen, De Jong, Bakayoko

We say: Feyenoord 3-2 PSV Eindhoven

With the level of attacking talent on display here, we are expecting a highly-entertaining clash with chances at both ends. That said, we are backing Feyenoord to come out on top at the sound of the final whistle.
