Sports Mole

PSV Eindhoven play host to PEC Zwolle on Sunday looking to record their 12th successive victory in this season's Eredivisie.

At a time when the home side sit seven points clear at the top of the standings, the visitors are in eighth position after putting together a three-game undefeated run.

Match preview

The appointment of Peter Bosz divided opinion among the PSV fanbase in the summer, partly due to his previous allegiance to Ajax and failing to win the Eredivisie in that one season.

However, Bosz has made a quite remarkable impact at PSV, winning 16 of his 20 matches in charge and his side yet to drop a point in the Dutch top flight.

Each of their 11 victories have been by at least a two-goal margin, with a total of 41 strikes being scored and just five conceded, yet Bosz will demand that complacency does not set in with just seven points separating the top four.

Progressing to the Champions League last 16 is as much of a priority and a 1-0 triumph over Lens in midweek has put PSV in contention to achieve just that.

Much could depend on how they fare away at bottom-placed Sevilla in their next continental fixture, yet the focus will currently be on overcoming a PEC Zwolle outfit who remain one of the season's surprise packages.

Having finished second in the Eerste Divisie in 2022-23, survival is the priority, but PEC Zwolle have shown signs that they should be aiming much higher.

A three-game losing streak has been followed by seven points being collected from a possible nine, catapulting Johnny Jansen's team into eighth place.

As well as defeating Excelsior and Fortuna Sittard, the Bluefingers have posted a 1-1 draw away at Vitesse, and it has created a six-point gap over the bottom three.

With trips to PSV and Ajax to come in their next five games, Jansen knows that they can ill-afford to lose their focus, but Sunday's fixture is an opportunity to play without pressure given the quality in their opponents' ranks.

Team News

Barring any fitness issues, Bosz may be prepared to select the same PSV XI from the win over Lens.

The same team was also named for the 6-0 triumph at Heracles in the preceding game, leaving the likes of Malik Tillman and Ricardo Pepi having to make do with spots among the replacements.

Veteran forward Luuk de Jong heads into this fixture with as many as nine goals and six assists from just 860 minutes of Eredivisie football this season.

Jansen will also opt against many alterations to his PEC Zwolle starting lineup after the 2-0 win over Fortuna Sittard.

However, Fredy Druijf and Odysseus Velanas combined for the decisive second after being introduced as substitutes and will each feel in contention for a recall.

Ryan Thomas could keep his place in the team after cramp forced him off early in the second half as he made his first start in over a year.

PSV Eindhoven possible starting lineup:
Benitez; Teze, Ramalho, Boscagli, Dest; Schouten, Veerman; Bakayoko, Til, Lozano; De Jong

PEC Zwolle possible starting lineup:
Schendelaar; Polen, Kersten, Lam, MacNulty; Buurmeester, Thomas, Van den Berg; Namli, Druijf, Reijnders

We say: PSV Eindhoven 3-0 PEC Zwolle

With the visitors having impressed of late, this has effectively become a free pass to try to shock the leaders. However, we do not anticipate any Dutch team defeating PSV for the foreseeable future and it would come as a surprise if the home side do not cruise to victory.
