Sports Mole previews Sunday's Eredivisie clash between Feyenoord and SBV Excelsior, including predictions, team news and possible lineups.
Sports Mole

A fourth consecutive win across all competitions will be the target for Feyenoord when they play host to Eredivisie newcomers SBV Excelsior on Sunday.

On the other hand, the away side head to De Kuip this weekend aiming to avoid a third defeat on the bounce and get their league campaign back on track.

Match preview

Despite not being at their razor-sharp best, Feyenoord had enough to see off the threat of Cambuur thanks to a 1-0 victory in Thursday's clash between the teams.

Arne Slot's men had Quilindschy Hartman to thank for all three points as his fourth-minute opener proved to be the deciding moment in a largely one-sided affair.

As a result, De Stadionclub have moved up to second place in the Eredivisie table, albeit only behind division leaders PSV Eindhoven on goal difference.

Coming up next is the challenge of an opposing outfit who have suffered defeat in all but three of the previous 20 meetings involving the teams.

With clean sheets in six of their last eight matches on home turf, Sunday's visitors will be looking to keep things tight at the defensive end en route to yet another win in front of their fans.

Excelsior were beaten at home for the third time this season courtesy of a 1-0 defeat against Heerenveen at Van Donge & De Roo Stadion on Saturday.

Milan van Ewijk broke the deadlock in the 58th minute to put Marinus Dijkhuizen's men to the sword in what was a game of two different halves.

The Kralingers have slipped to 12th in the league standings and will now start to look anxiously over their shoulders as they sit just three points clear of the drop.

Having let in an average of three goals per game away from home this term, Sunday's visitors now prepare for what is set to be a tough test against the home side.

Team News

Oussama Idrissi remains ruled out of action with a muscle injury, and the 26-year-old will not play any part for Feyenoord this weekend.

Quilindschy Hartman is expected to retain his place in the starting lineup here as he continues to impress for the home side since moving to the first team.

Excelsior's Sven Nieuwpoort is set to miss a ninth game on the bounce since picking up a long-term knee injury against FC Emmen back in September.

Aside from that, the visitors have a clean bill of health heading into this weekend's derby, which promises to be a nerve-wracking contest.

Feyenoord possible starting lineup:
Bijlow; Hartman, Hancko, Trauner, Geertruida; Kokcu, Szymanski, Timber; Paixao, Danilo, Dilrosun

SBV Excelsior possible starting lineup:
Van Gassel; Markelo, Seymor, El Yaakoubi, Horemans; Goudmijn, Baas, Ayoub; Azarkan, Kharchouch, Lamprou

We say: Feyenoord 3-1 SBV Excelsior

Feyenoord have been solid at the back all season long, and while we expect them to be breached defensively here, we also fancy them to do enough damage at the top end of the pitch to secure all three points.
