Sports Mole previews Tuesday's League One clash between Oxford United and Shrewsbury Town, including predictions, team news and possible lineups.
Sports Mole

Oxford United will be looking to make it four League One victories on the bounce when they welcome Shrewsbury Town to the Kassam Stadium on Tuesday.

On the other hand, the away side make the journey aiming to end a four-game winless run in the league and get their season back on track.

Match preview

Oxford United showed great resolve to claim a 3-1 triumph over Stevenage when the teams went head-to-head at Broadhall Way on Saturday afternoon.

Liam Manning's men fell behind to Jamie Reid's opener in the 15th minute but managed to level matters through Greg Leigh, before second-half goals from the latter and Elliott Moore turned the game on its head.

As a result, the U's sit second in the League One table and are now just a point adrift of leaders Portsmouth despite having played one game fewer.

Next up is the challenge of an opposing outfit who have only managed one win from the last 10 editions of this fixture across all competitions.

However, that solitary victory did come in the most recent encounter back in February when Tuesday's hosts fell to a 1-0 defeat in last season's reverse fixture.

Shrewsbury had to make do with a point from their encounter against Charlton Athletic which ended in a goalless stalemate at the Croud Meadow on Saturday.

Matthew Taylor's men had their back against the wall for large spells of the contest but did enough to come away with a share of the spoils in a drab affair.

With 10 points amassed from nine games this term, the Shrews are currently 18th in the standings, just four points clear of the relegation zone.

Off the back of three straight away defeats by a combined score of 6-0, Tuesday's visitors have work to do at both end of the pitch if they are to secure a positive result here.

Team News

Following his two-goal haul against Stevenage, Greg Leigh has now found the back of the net three times in his last three starts and is one to keep an eye on here.

Welshman Mark Harris is set for a return to action having fully served his three-match ban as a result of being red carded in early September.

Shrewsbury's Ryan Bowman will be looking to deliver the goods once again after grabbing the winner in the last meeting between Tuesday's opponents.

Joseph Anderson will be pushing for a return to the visitors' starting lineup having had to settle for a place on the substitutes' bench last time out.

Oxford United possible starting lineup:
Beadle; Brown, Long, Moore, Stevens; McGuane, Brannagan; Leigh, Rodrigues, Goodrham; Bodin

Shrewsbury Town possible starting lineup:
Marosi; Feeney, Flannagan, Dunkley; Kenneh, Perry, Bayliss, Fleming, Winchester; Udoh, Mata

We say: Oxford United 3-1 Shrewsbury Town

Oxford United are the more in-form side heading into this one, and the added advantage of playing on home turf makes them strong favourites. We are tipping the hosts to get the job done and come away with maximum points in the end.
