Sports Mole previews Tuesday's Championship clash between Queens Park Rangers and Swansea City, including predictions, team news and possible lineups.
Sports Mole

Both Queens Park Rangers and Swansea City will be bidding to bounce back from defeats when they lock horns at Loftus Road on Tuesday night.

The home side will enter the contest off the back of a 3-1 loss to Sunderland, while Swansea were on the end of a two-goal defeat to rivals Cardiff City last time out.

Match preview

QPR have won two and lost four of their six Championship matches this season, with a total of six points leaving them in 20th position in the table.

Gareth Ainsworth's side started their campaign with a 4-0 defeat at Watford but bounced back by winning 2-1 at Cardiff in their second game of the season.

The London club have suffered losses in three of their last four league matches, though, including a 3-1 reverse at home to Sunderland on Saturday afternoon.

The Hoops actually took the lead at Loftus Road through Kenneth Paal, only for Sunderland to score three times without reply in order to secure the bragging rights.

QPR finished 20th in the Championship last season, and it does appear that it could be another difficult campaign, but their two wins this term have been impressive ones, overcoming both Cardiff and Middlesbrough on their travels.

Swansea suffered huge disappointment in the South Wales derby on Saturday, with Cardiff scoring twice in the latter stages to secure all three points at the Cardiff City Stadium.

Michael Duff's side have now lost each of their last four matches, including their last three in the Championship to Preston North End, Bristol City and Cardiff.

The Swans are currently down in 22nd position in the table, picking up just one point from their opening six matches, which is not quite what the club would have had in mind at this stage.

Swansea finished 10th in the Championship last term, only three points from the playoffs, but they look well short of a side capable of challenging for promotion at this moment in time.

The Welsh outfit secured four points in their two league games with QPR last season, beating them 1-0 at home before drawing 1-1 at Loftus Road back in January.

Team News

QPR will be without the services of experienced midfielder Jack Colback on Tuesday evening, as he was handed a straight red card in the defeat to Sunderland on Saturday afternoon.

Jimmy Dunne is also missing due to a shoulder injury, but the Hoops did not pick up any fresh fitness concerns in their 3-1 loss to the Black Cats.

Lyndon Dykes is likely to receive a call into the starting XI for this contest, while Colback's absence is expected to open the door for Chris Willock to come into the side here.

As for Swansea, Liam Walsh and Steven Benda remain unavailable for selection due to injury problems.

Head coach Duff is set to make changes to the side that started against Cardiff, with Jamie Paterson and Josh Ginnelly potentially both being introduced into the XI.

Duff is unlikely to completely shuffle his pack, though, as he will be wary of losing the dressing room at a key stage of the season, so there are not expected to be any major surprises here.

Queens Park Rangers possible starting lineup:
Begovic; Kakay, Cook, Fox; Smyth, Field, Willock, Paal; Dozzell, Dykes, Chair

Swansea City possible starting lineup:
Rushworth; Darling, Wood-Gordon, Pedersen; Key, Grimes, Fulton, Patino, Tymon; Paterson, Ginnelly

We say: Queens Park Rangers 2-1 Swansea City

QPR have not actually beaten Swansea at home in any competition since January 2020, with their last success in the league at Loftus Road coming in April 2019. This is a match that could go either way, but we have a feeling that QPR will be able to navigate their way to an important three points.
