Sports Mole

Looking to end a four-game winless run across all competitions, Ajax visit the Kras Stadion on Saturday afternoon to lock horns with FC Volendam.

Similarly, the home side also come into this weekend's encounter on a bad run of form having failed to win any of their last five league matches.

Match preview

Ajax suffered a heavy 6-1 thrashing against Serie A leaders Napoli in the teams' Champions League group-stage meeting at the Johan Cruyff ArenA on Tuesday.

Alfred Schreuder's men opened the scoring through Mohammed Kudus before unreplied goals from Giacomo Raspadori, Giovanni Di Lorenzo and Piotr Zielinski saw them head into the break 3-1 down after which Raspadori, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia and Giovanni Simeone netted in the second half to seal the deal.

Prior to that, De Godenzonen played out a 1-1 draw against Go Ahead Eagles on Saturday and have now dropped down to second place in the Eredivisie table as a result.

Coming up next is the task of facing off against an opposing outfit who have lost eight of the last nine editions of this fixture, although the most recent one was as far back as 2013.

Ahead of a crunch European affair four days later, Saturday's visitors will be aiming to rally themselves and serve up a perfect response to their recent struggles.

FC Volendam fell to a disappointing 2-0 defeat against Fortuna Sittard when the sides went head to head at the Fortuna Sittard Stadion on Sunday.

Wim Jonk's men fell behind to Umaro Embalo's opener in the 33rd minute before Oguzhan Ozyakup made it two just shy of the half-time whistle.

Having amassed just one of the last 15 points available, Het Andere Oranje currently sit bottom of the standings and are in need of a pick-me-up.

With two losses in three home matches this term, Saturday's hosts go in search of a much-needed victory on home turf to help breathe life into their league campaign.

Team News

Mohammed Kudus has scored seven goals in his last seven outings for Ajax and the Ghana international is definitely one to keep an eye on here.

Still yet to feature for the away side since July due to a muscle injury, 20-year-old Mohammed Ihattaren is expected to miss Saturday's contest.

Off the back of a heavy defeat last time out, Alfred Schreuder might contemplate making some alterations to his starting XI for this one.

Volendam's Calvin Twigt has been sidelined with a knee problem since March, while Francesco Antonucci continues to nurse an ankle injury.

This weekend's hosts are also set to be without the services of Bilal Ould-Chikh, who received his marching orders in the defeat to Fortuna last time out.

FC Volendam possible starting lineup:
Stankovic; Murkin, Benamar, Mbuyamba, Plat; Eiting, Mirani; Van Mieghem, Oristanio, Veerman; Muhren

Ajax possible starting lineup:
Pasveer; Wijndal, Blind, Timber, Rensch; Alvarez, Klaassen, Berghuis; Bergwijn, Kudus, Brobbey

We say: FC Volendam 1-3 Ajax

Ajax are currently enduring their worst spell since the turn of the year and they need all three points here to weather the storm somewhat. We are backing the away side to emerge triumphant come the sound of the final whistle.
