On November 23, 2013, George Groves took on Carl Froch in Manchester, attempting to take the senior boxer's IBF and WBA super-middleweight titles. Froch was controversially awarded a TKO victory by referee Howard Foster in the ninth round, before which Groves had widely been considered to be ahead. In January 2014, the IBF ordered a rematch between the pair and on February 13, it was confirmed that Groves and Froch had agreed upon a date of May 31.
